Exciting News
We will be performing this show as a Black Box production which means that the audience will actually sit up on the stage on three sides of the actors. The acting area will be placed along the back wall and the audience will surround the area on three sides; very up close and personal. For the first time at CHS, the house will sit empty during our show.
DESCRIPTION OF THE SHOW
Some plays are designed to whisk you away to a fantastical world, an alternate reality where folks spontaneously break into song. And then there are plays like 12 ANGRY JURORS - an ultra-realistic fly-on-the-wall reality play. Originally set in 1956 and titled 12 ANGRY MEN, the once all-white, all male play has been updated to take place with a diverse cast of men and women (as you would see on any urban jury today). There have been few changes to the powerful script as the basics of the story and characters are timeless (sometimes unfortunately).
The entire play is set in a jury room, around a long table littered with papers, cups and food containers. We don’t see the defendant, the lawyers, or the judge, but we are exposed to what happens inside a jury room once the lawyers have finished and the case goes to the jury.
12 Angry Jurors is a play that contemplates the huge responsibility of 12 ordinary people as they consider the guilt or innocence of a young man accused of murder. The 12 jurors bring their own histories, prejudices, and biases to the jury room as they work through this life or death case. Will they find him guilty or not? His life hangs in the balance.
